Books 4 Kick the Ball and 5 Black Mask look at double final consonants and adjacent consonants respectively. Book 6 Fish and Chips looks at consonant digraphs, while Book 7 Kate’s Kite looks at split digraphs, words such as ‘make’, ‘cone’ and ‘fine’. This five-book series, which is designed for children who need extra support and a small steps approach, complements any phonics programme. First Stop covers the first, basic elements of punctuation: capital letters and full stops, uses of capitalisation and question marks. It is excellent for younger pupils and those with special needs and is suitable for a wide age range. Vocabulary is limited and the motivating tasks can be completed independently. Stop it! comprises a practical, ready- made supply of punctuation exercises and covers use of full stops, capital letters, apostrophes, speech marks etc. Stop it, Editor! covers similar areas to Stop it! but in a more editorial style. This book is full of tasks pupils enjoy, such as finding mistakes, marking and correcting texts. It is perfect to use alongside Stop it! as it consolidates skills using a different approach.

Each of the three books contains stories to improve sequencing and text comprehension. Book 1 has three-part texts to put in order, Book 2 four-part and Book 3 five-part texts. Each story has two versions: one with simpler text and more limited vocabulary, which is useful for less-confident readers. Suitable for KS1 plus older pupils with less-developed literacy skills. Previously available through Easylearn. Practical note: the easier version of each story has a top right-hand corner picture which includes a cat, the harder one features a dog. Stories are interchangeable and an easier and a harder version can be used at the same time within a group of children.
